Residential Services

We at Independence Residences Inc., recognize that "home", can be defined in many different ways. Therefore, our residential programs are as diverse as the people we support. With options ranging from 24 hours/7 day a week supervised group living situations, to smaller settings with supervision matching the capabilities of our residents, to the opportunity of home ownership, IRI's program strive to open as many doors as our individuals consumers may desire.

Our residences begin with a safe place to live, providing that fundamental sense of security essential for any home. IRI goes beyond just meeting basic needs. We create opportunities for our residents to expand their knowledge of at-home skills, as well as utilizing the resources of their communities. In some cases this process begins with simply introducing people to the opportunities available in their own neighborhood. Only then they can make informed decisions about which opportunities they would like to access. Based on the person's past experience and current interests, IRI works with each individual, their family and service coordinator to connect them to the resources they need to live a full life.

Many of the people at IRI have demonstrated their ability to advocate for themselves and have expressed interest in broadening their advocacy skills. Together we have formed a self-advocacy group that has direct communication with our Executive Director and the IRI Board. The advocacy group also has ties to State and National self-advocacy organizations. Through direct communication with those we support, the IRI Board and executive staff are in step with the interests and needs of our residents.
